in just a few hours i will be flying overseas to australiaaaaaaah!! the last few days have been very very busy running errands, getting a passport (yikes) and packing. i plan on working during the two weeks i am there, so i packaged up my art supplies too.
i couldn’t sleep last night, so i made some studies. i like this technique using gouache and drafting pens. i think ill start doing most of my studies using this method. the gouache dries so nicely, you can draw and layer right over the pigment with graphite. i like to use simple red and blue .03 drafting pens with primary color gouache for the studies. its neat to discover all the hues that come from just few manipulated primary colors. yellow, red, blue, black.

What a fantastic sketch Amy! you have such a beautiful, delicate style. I loved hearing you talk about your work at the semi-permanent seminar so i had to pop by your site and see more of your illustrations/paintings. love your work!

Hello,
I also wanted to say thankyou for coming to speak to us, i didnt speak to you afterwards (i had to catch a train) but i could relate to alot of what you said and really enjoyed your presentation. I actually heard some design students who caught my train on the way home and they were discussing the way the other artists had presented themselves and a comment someone had made to them which was something along the lines of “thats just what artists are like” to which they were disagreeing with saying .. that “Amy Sol her presentation was good she wasn’t like that at all”, so i thought you might like to hear that and i was proud that you stood up for artists in a way which wasnt degrading or made us look like we are all just weird and use alot of drugs. Anyway… sorry i am rambling. Thanks for a great presentation, would love to see you exhibit in Sydney sometime.
Belinda.

Ello Amy! Was one of your semi-permanent supporters, spoke to you afterwards (asked how long you’ve had your current style). You were the one speaker I was most looking forward to seeing.
Went online to get a print and they’re all sold out! boohoooo… somewhat mildy devastated.
Hope your stay in Australia is AWESOME!
Hi Amy, enjoyed your talk at semi perm sydney:) great work, hope you had a good time!
Hi Amy,
Thanks for coming to talk to us at Semi-Permanent. Your work is beautiful and I really enjoyed your talk.
Helen.
What a lovely study. I really like seeing the work in progress. Have a great time Australia!
Hey Amy! It was a great opportunity to have heard your talk today at Semi Permanent! and also have met you in person! (Me and my sister – Chloe).
I personally enjoyed your talk the most today; simply because I’m just soo in love with all of your pieces! It was really nice and inspirational.. and am quite envious that I don’t possess such talent! I do look forward to when you’re prints are on sale so I can get my hands on some! I’ve registered!
I hope to see you exhibit in Sydney in near future!
Enjoy Australia!
Clarissa
Hi Amy
I’d never seen your work before until today at the conference and I was really impressed! Your talk was very interesting – obviously you’re not a professional speaker, but the fact that your personality came out in how you spoke was in some ways better than an over-prepared speech.
Hope you exhibit in Sydney, or at least take that trip you said you were planning!
Clara
p.s. you mentioned liking Australian wildlife…have you seen a platypus yet? I’m so sure that once you do, you won’t be able to resist putting one in your painting! They are the weirdest water/land creatures but also really, really cute.
Amy, it was such a pleasure to hear and meet you in Semi-permanent today. I was impressed at your ideas, fantasy and hard work on each and every single piece of your hard work
. I love staying at home drawing, or doing other creative work, hours and hours… don’t feel the need to have outside contact at all. So I can understand to some extend what it is like when you just lock yourself away and concentrate on your art and nothing else
.
You are truly inspirational
Thanks for coming all the way to Sydney, sharing a piece of your life, your art and being so honest and friendly to everyone.
You mentioned you’ll be here for two weeks, will you be in Sydney for a few days? Hope you have a great trip around Australia!
If you need info or help on Sydney, let me know
Have a Safe trip in Australia! best of luck at Semi Permanent
